e-Citizen is not intended as a certification leading to employment but rather helps Candidates to develop an understanding and experience of computers and the Internet with a view to facilitating their participation in the Information Society.

On completion of e-Citizen Candidates will be aware of information sources and available online services and will be able to browse the World Wide Web and extract useful information in the areas of News, Government, Consumer, Travel, Education/Training, Employment, Health, Interest Groups and Business. They will be able to use the services available through the Internet by interacting with the service provider to successfully obtain the service required and fully participate as an e-Citizen.

How is e-Citizen taught?

The e-Citizen programme is partly tutor-led but also involves independent study.

Candidates work through a Syllabus Guide which includes tasks that are designed to allow the Candidate to become more involved within online culture and give the Candidate practical experience of some of the opportunities the Internet presents.

The programme has an easy-to-follow look and feel with a clear and logical progression pathway through the Syllabus Guide, which is retained by the Candidate as a reminder of the skills they have acquired.
